SAUNDATTI: THE GODDESS OF ALL

They come from everywhere, in any way, carrying everything. The full moon of Yellamma
refers millions of Pilgrims to Saundatti, a small village in Karnataka.
It‘s an ancient ritual, tribal, magic, where water, fire, plants and hair, become the symbolic
vehicle of purification and transformation of themselves .
Today, the old man is let go to make room and welcome the new, and every act and gesture,
from eating to wash, it is a ritual and a blessing. Catharsis is the laitmotiv of the celebration.
Eunuchs dance, play and sing with stringed instruments and drum, sellers of turmeric ;
orange powder sacred, are hundreds on the way to the temple, some people predict the
future with the help of cards and parrot, the shamans read the stones to the other women,
someone do rudimentary tattoos on the side of the road.
There is everything and we are all about. All smiling, all in peace and all who have
completed an unlikely journey, for being here, and be transformed by the goddess Yellamma
The goddess of the different, the goddess of all.
